The doors available on this site are broken down by period and style – Georgian, Victorian, 1930s, ledged and braced doors and 1950s doors. The timber choices are pitch pine, oak, and clear pine .
Pitch Pine
The pitch pine doors are constructed from solid pitch pine with mortice and tenon joints and characteristic extra wide mid and bottom rails.
Oak
The oak doors are similar to the pitch pine in proportion but the stiles, panels and rails are veneered over a solid timber engineered core for increased stability. This also has the benefit of having a top quality, knot free oak veneer giving matching doors with clean lines ready to oil or wax.
Clear Pine
The clear pine is similar to the oak door in construction but uses a knot free, New Zealand ‘radiata’ pine which is perfect for painting or waxing.
Panelled Doors
All of the panelled doors we feature on this site have flat panels as opposed to raised and fielded panels. This would reflect the actual style common in most Victorian houses.
Ledged and Braced
The ledged and braced doors are currently only available in oak . The oak doors are available either as a engineered door or in solid oak. The solid oak doors are made to measure with selected kiln dried european oak, so any size can be specified. The engineered doors are available either as framed ledge and brace or just ledge and brace, because of the method of construction these doors are very unlikely to warp split or shrink.
